BARRY SNYDER, internationally acclaimed pianist and teacher continues to intrigue audiences with varied programs including works ranging from Rameau to William Bolcom. Mr.Snyder’s entry onto the international stage was made as a result of winning three major prizes at the 1966 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition consisting of the Silver Medal, Pan American Union Award and the Chamber Music Prize. Since being awarded these prizes, Snyder has recorded nearly forty CD’s and given concerts spanning almost four decades around the world, having performed in such cities as Moscow, Buenos Aires, Tokyo, Bangkok,Jakarta, London, Barcelona, Berlin, New York, Washington D.C., Boston,Seattle and Vancouver. Barry Snyder has performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras and conductors including Robert Shaw, Leopold Stokowski, David Zinman and Charles Dutoit. Mr. Snyder has been Professor of Piano at the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music since 1970. In great demand as a teacher, Snyder has given master classes at such schools as the Royal Northern College of Music Manchester, England), Trinity College and Guildhall School (London, England), The Academy of Music (Krakow, Poland), Normal University (Taipei, Taiwan), Hochschule fur Musik (Freiburg, Germany),Beethoven Conservatory (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Conservatorium and University of Western Australia (Perth, Australia), the Manhattan School of Music (New York), University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, Michigan),and the University of Texas at Houston (Houston, Texas).

A well-known chamber music collaborator, Mr. Snyder has appeared with colleagues such as Hermann Prey, Jan DeGaetani, Zvi Zeitlin (with whom he recorded the complete works of Stravinsky for violin and piano), Ani Kavafian, Asako Urushihara (complete Schumann violin/piano sonatas),
Sylvia Rosenberg, Bonita Boyd, and Steven Doane (with whom he recorded the complete music for cello/piano of Gabriel Faure and won the Diapason d’Or award). In addition to collaborating with solo artists, Snyder has also performed and recorded with numerous string quartets including the Chilingarian and Cleveland Quartets and, in addition, he was a founding member of the Eastman Trio.

Barry Snyder is committed to promoting 20th century works and has had several works written specifically for and including Verne Reynold’s Florilegium, Vols I, II, and III for solo piano, Concerto for Piano and Winds, and Carter Pann’s improvisations on the Name Barry Snyder for solo piano. World premieres have included compositions by Sydnet Hodkinson, Toshio Hosakawa and Augusta Reed Thomas.

CLASSICAL PERFORMERS INTERNATIONAL: C.P.I. is a non-profit arts organization whose mission is to create performance opportunities for young emerging musicians from all over the world, and thus to bring together music lovers from different international and cultural backgrounds. Besides its concert series, C.P.I. also organizes Masterclasses and workshops, and is currently developing an outreach program focusing on education and cultural awareness for youth.
