Account information
Receiving DUPLICATE emails, what can you do and WHY?
Check first who is the SENDER. If the other email is sent by GOOGLE GROUPS it is a legitimate EuroCircle email as we have had problems with AOL, VERIZON and a couple of other email providers who tend to block all community website emails (inc. activation emails!). Theo created a "back-up" list which has some (but not all EC emails per city) on it. You can send us at info@eurocircle.com an email to request to REMOVE your email from google groups (please tell the CITY and email). Also, it is possible you yourself have added several different emails to the system or have forwarded your emails (suprisingly often it is the user that is wrong, no the computer). If this is the case use the REMOVE ME feature to remove all the uncessary emails - scroll down to see how.

It is also good to keep in mind we have a specific feature for contact us at the bottom of each page. And check under My Account - preferences - you can control whether you receive any emails from EuroCircle - site (that does not mean google groups) at all. Just UNcheck the box for " I would like EuroCircle to send me EuroCircle newsletters and announcements" - and the only emails you receive are the Googlegroup emails if you are receiving those as well.

Activate your account (verify your email) and retrieve lost activation email?
I can't login and I just completed the Basic profile and mailing preferences but the site does not recognize me even if I got the Welcome screen. What should I do now?? Time to check your email box and make sure you activate your email account by clicking the link specified for it. Please note that the verification email may be in your junk folder. If so, please specify that it is NOT junk mail and add the sender's email address to your address book/safe list to RE-activate the link (i.e hotmail would DE-activate the link if the verification email lands in your junk folder). Retrieve lost activation email here (note: 10 days)!

Why do I have to activate my account (Double Opt-In)
A double opt-in process gathers emails from our members, but rather than add them immediately to EuroCircle list we choose to hold those email addresses and send a secondary email to all of you requiring a response to opt-in to our list. It ensures YOU are the one who added your email to our membership list since you will have to activate your account by clicking the link in your second email (activation email) within 10 days of the initial submission.

Downfall: They say that those who use double opt-in as a method of building their email list lose about 40-60% of those people who initially signed up.
Positives: A double opt-in confirms without a doubt that our subscribers have requested to hear from EuroCircle, suggesting you are truly interested in being a member. Since it requires an extra step to opt-in to our newsletter, we know that our database list is comprised of people who truly want to be there. Nobody else can add your name since YOU have to activate your account from YOUR email.

I lost the activation email - what do I do now?
You can ask the site to send you a new activation (lost activation email) at the login page if no more than 10 days has passed after you received the original activation email. After that point EuroCircle will delete non-active accounts and all these members have to register again. Retrieve lost activation email here!

I am trying to remove my email. What can I do?
1. Go directly to eurocircle.com/memberarea/remove/index.php to remove your email OR
2. for registered members who have valid username and password: To unsubscribe from EuroCircle Mailing List only, login to our site and go to preferences (under Member Area - My Account - Preferences) and deselect option to receive newsletter and announcements. This option will allow you to use all member features but you will not receive our emails regarding events etc. If you want to permanently remove your email from www.EuroCircle.com, login and go to "Member Area - My Account - Remove Me". eurocircle.com/memberarea/remove/index.php

REMOVING DOES NOT WORK:

1. Your email might be on the googlegroups mailing list (especially if it is aol, verizon etc) which is our backup mailing list. Email to info@eurocircle.com and tell us to check if your email is on "city name" googlegroups list and remove it manually. Those lists are by CITY so it is important you tell us the city.

2. Try forgot username/password retrieval and it says your emails is NOT in the EuroCircle database, yet you ARE receiving emails? Well, that email may not be in the system but maybe you are forwarding from some other email. Try that!

For the "old" members (who have registered before June 1 2005 but not used the site after that)or the people who are on the mailing list only without any member priviledges (have no username and password), to unsubscribe from EuroCircle Mailing List go to eurocircle.com/events/signmeup/remove/unsubscribe.php

If you are still having problems, you can do two things; 1. Send us an email via eurocircle.com/contactus or 2. call Kaisa at 212-721-6190, to remove your email manually.

Logging In
I can't login in. When I type in my username and password correctly and press the submit button, I am brought back to the Login box. What is wrong?
It is mainly Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 users who have this problem. Most sites use COOKIES to store your login session.

Your PRIVACY settings, when set at a high level, may prevent those cookies (=cookies have to be enabled) from being accepted (more details by browser below). In other words, your cookies need to enabled.

In addition, your computer's individual TIME SETTINGS (usually under Start button - control panel - clock) has to be set for the correct time zone for any cookies to work. Sometimes that requires you need to set the computer for internet time. Especially under daylight savings time seems to be messing up the older computers with the time changes. (delete old cookies)

Another reason may be your BROWSER; just for the heck of it, try another browser such as Mozilla (Firefox) or Safari instead of Internet Explorer. This seems to solve 95% of any problems.

Internet Explorer 6.0+
1. Select 'Internet Options' from the Tools menu.
2. Click on the 'Privacy' tab.
3. Click the 'Default' button (or manually slide the bar down to 'Medium') under 'Settings'.
4. Click 'OK'.
