Bulgarian pianist, Varta Tchakarian has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Bulgaria, Holland, France, Canada, and United States. She is a winner of numerous competitions in her native country as well as a two time winner of the De Bose National Piano Competition in the US. Ms. Tchakarian was awarded the 2004/2005 scholarship in piano from the Susan L. Tajra Foundation, Paris, France. She attended Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, participated in Master Classes with Emanuel Ax, Kalichstein/Laredo/Robinson trio, Ani Kavafian, and received couchings from Marian Hahn, Jane Coop, Ronald Copes and Curtis MacComber. Her principal teachers include Seymour Lipkin, Constance Carroll, and Milena Mollova. Ever since her arrival in the US in 1999, Ms. Tchakarian has shown interest in the teaching field. She was on the faculty of The Music Academy at Louisiana State University and the 2004 Belvoir Terrace Fine Arts Camp. She also appeared as a substitute piano teacher at the 92nd Street Y. In 2004, Ms. Tchakarian was chosen for a Morse Fellow at the Juilliard School and as a result she became an Artist-Educator at PS 166 for the 2004-2005 academic year. Ms. Tchakarian began piano lessons at the age of 5. She attended the Bulgarian National Academy, received her Bachelor of Music Degree, graduating summa cum laude, from Louisiana State University, and her Masters of Music Degree from The Juilliard School. Ms. Varta Tchakarian has joined the faculty of The Piano School of NYC in 2005.
