Mural Arts Tour, June 18th 2pm
When people encounter a mural, they experience it first as an impressive work of art. But soon, they begin to ask questions: who created this, why is it here, how was it made? They sense the story behind the mural and want to know more about it.
To help answer people’s questions, Philadelphia’s Mural Arts Program developed a mural tour in 1998. Led by docents, some of whom are mural artists, these private group tours offer a “behind the scenes” look at how murals are made. Filled with anecdotes and stories as well as information about methods and costs, the tours leave people with a deeper appreciation for the complexities of mural making, and more important, with “a renewed faith that art still has the power to transform lives.”
The Eurocircle tour is scheduled for 2pm, and we will meet at the Academy of Music. The cost is $10 pp, payable directly to the tour operator, and tickets will be available for purchase at the departure point. After the tour, we will meet as a group at McGillin’s Old Ale House for some beer and light snacks so please budget accordingly.
