Polish Film Screening of Andrzej Wajda's "Katyn"
Polish Film Screening of Andrzej Wajda’s “Katyn”
3710 Chestnut St Philadelphia, PA
The underground film series organized by Eurocircle’s East European film promoter Andrew Kotliar continues with this fall’s screening of Andrzej Wajda’s film “Katyn” at International House. “Katyn”- a story of Polish officers murdered by the NKVD in Katyn during WWII. A picture of women unaware of the crime, who were waiting for their husbands, fathers, sons, and brothers. An uncompromising reckoning with the lie of the communist powers, that was to order Poland to forget those who were killed. A film about an invincible struggle for the memory and the truth. Katyn seeks to heal a wound, not by securing justice for this unpunished crime, though by unearthing and presenting the truth it contributes to such an aim, but rather by living through the entire Katyn ordeal with the audience. Polish with English subtitles Discussion to follow $10 admission (cash payable at the door)
